Forest Cake Smash and Bath

There’s something magical about turning one. It’s that perfect mix of baby and toddler—a sweet in-between stage where curiosity is blooming, and personality is shining. Recently, I had the joy of capturing a cake smash session for a little boy who brought all the adventure and charm to the set. With a forest-themed backdrop and a cake fit for a woodland explorer, this session was one for the books.
We set the stage with deep greens, rustic textures, and a backdrop that looked like it was pulled straight out of a storybook forest. Tree trunks, mossy touches, and woodland critters added the perfect whimsical touch. The star of the show, of course, was the birthday boy—wide-eyed, full of giggles, and ready to dive into some frosting fun.
Dressed in a simple outfit with earthy tones, he looked right at home in our little forest world. At first, he was a bit hesitant—poking at the cake with one curious finger. But once he got a taste, oh boy, it was game on! Smears of icing quickly painted his cheeks, fingers, and even toes. The joy was contagious. There's something incredibly heartwarming about watching a one-year-old discover cake for the first time—it’s pure, unfiltered happiness.

One of my favorite moments? When he gave us a big, frosting-covered smile with cake in one hand and the other proudly raised in the air like he just conquered his first birthday. Which, let’s be honest—he totally did.
These sessions are more than just cute photos. They’re a celebration of growth, of making it through that wild first year full of late nights, first giggles, tiny milestones, and so much love. And with the forest backdrop, this one had an extra dose of magic.
