Finding the perfect location for high school senior pictures can be a challenge, but when you are looking for a mix of classic elegance, lush greenery, and stunning natural light right here in Littleton, Hudson Gardens always delivers.
Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing some gorgeous summer senior pictures at Hudson Gardens, and the results were pure magic. If you are a rising senior (or a parent trying to narrow down the perfect backdrop for your teen's portraits), here is a look behind the lens at why this Littleton staple is one of my absolute favorite spots.
Why Hudson Gardens is a Photographer’s Dream
What makes Hudson Gardens so spectacular for portraits is the sheer variety of backdrops packed into one beautifully walkable space. In a single one-hour session, we can capture entirely different vibes without spending half our time walking between locations.
During this session, we wandered through a few iconic spots:
The Rose Gardens: Perfect for adding pops of romantic, vibrant color that make simple solid outfits stand out.
The Rustic Wooden Bridges & Water Features: These areas give a beautifully soft, reflective light that is incredibly flattering for close-up portraits.
The Sun-Drenched Groves: As the sun began to dip toward the horizon, the light filtering through the mature trees gave us that warm, golden hour glow that every senior hopes for.

Styling Tips for an Outdoor Garden Session
For this particular shoot, our senior knocked it out of the park with her wardrobe choices. When you are shooting against a lush, green background like Hudson Gardens, styling makes all the difference:
Embrace Solid Colors: Bold, solid tones like deep blues, jewel tones, creams, and soft pastels contrast beautifully against green foliage without looking distracting.
Texture Over Patterns: Instead of heavy patterns, look for textures like lace, ribbed knit, or flowing fabrics that catch the light and add movement to your photos.
The Two-Outfit Strategy: We opted for one casual, fun outfit (jeans and a great top) to start with, and then changed into a slightly dressier sundress for golden hour. It gave her gallery a perfect balance of everyday personality and timeless elegance.
